If you are the owner of a garden, you will either love gardening as a relaxing and rewarding hobby or you will simply hate it. However much some gardens need minimal maintenance, they do need at least occasional work to keep the grass down and make sure that the garden borders are tidy.
This is an important factor that many people overlook when choosing their new home and they often pick a house with a garden which they then find themselves unable to manage and the whole upkeep becomes a chore.
The trick is that you should always try to match the garden to your skills and if you love to be out there at all times of the day and are not afraid to get stuck in then you can take on more of a challenge.
If you have little time to maintain the garden apart from an occasional mow or prune then you are best advised to choose a smaller garden which needs little maintenance.
Pick those plants and flowers which are also suited to your skills and time, as there are many shrubs which look good but take little in the way of cutting back and looking after. Make sure that the time spent gardening is time you enjoy, rather than something which you dread the whole time.
